Bernard Whalen, a lieutenant in the New York Police Department, has published two books–The NYPD’s First Fifty Years and Justifiable Homicide–as well as Case Files of the NYPD with co-authors Philip Messing and Robert Mladinich.  He leaves near New York City, and speaks to groups about the history of the New York Police Department and his book frequently.
